A quick reality of outdoor furniture
Your furniture is designed for the outdoors, but it still lives in sun, rain, heat, and wind every day.
Over time, you may notice:
- Fabrics lightening or softening
- Wood developing natural variation
- Finishes evolving with exposure
That’s all normal. What’s not normal (and where we step in) is when something fails prematurely or doesn’t perform the way it should.
Do’s & Don’ts (this will make the biggest difference long-term)
DO
- Use protective covers when furniture isn’t in use
- Especially during extended sun, rain, or seasonal downtime.
- Allow everything to fully dry before covering
- Airflow matters. Trapped moisture leads to mildew and fabric issues.
- Clean regularly with mild soap and water
- Avoid buildup of dirt, pollen, and debris that can break down materials over time
.
- Keep furniture clear of standing water
- Good drainage helps preserve finishes, frames, and cushions.
- Secure or store umbrellas in windy conditions
- Wind damage is one of the most common (and preventable) issues.
- Close umbrellas when not in use
- Even on calm days, conditions can change quickly.
- Check and tighten hardware periodically
- Normal use and temperature changes can loosen connections over time.
- Use furniture as intended on stable, level surfaces
- Uneven ground can stress frames and joints.
DON’T
- Don’t cover wet cushions or trap moisture under covers
- This is the leading cause of mildew and fabric damage.
- Don’t use pressure washers or harsh chemicals
- These can strip finishes, damage fabrics, and void protections.
- Don’t allow cushions or fabrics to sit in standing water
- Prolonged exposure can lead to breakdown over time.
- Don’t leave umbrellas open or unsecured when unattended
- Sudden wind can cause immediate damage.
- Don’t drag furniture across rough surfaces
- This can damage frames, feet, and joints.
- Don’t place furniture too close to fire features without proper clearance
- Excess heat can damage finishes and materials.
- Don’t assume natural wear is a defect
- Fading, minor rust spotting, and natural material changes are part of outdoor use.
- Don’t machine wash cushions, pillows, or their inserts
- Washing machines can break down the internal structure and fabrics.
- Don’t attempt major repairs or modifications on your own
- This can make warranty support more difficult. Always check with us first.
